Five bottlenecks slowing your video production

The hidden costs of starting every clip from scratch — and how a template system removes them, one bottleneck at a time.

Every newsroom feels its video is slower than it should be, but few can name exactly where the time goes. It's rarely one big failure. It's five familiar bottlenecks, each one quietly taxing every clip, adding up to a pipeline that can't keep pace with the news. Name them, and each one turns out to have the same fix.

01Every video starts from scratch

A blank timeline is the most expensive place to begin. Rebuilding the same lower-thirds, colors and logo on every clip means the first half-hour of each edit is spent recreating what already existed yesterday. Multiply by every video the channel makes, and it's the single largest hidden cost in the room.

02Production depends on one person

When only one editor knows how to build a package, the whole queue moves at their availability. They take a day off, or get pulled onto a bigger story, and everything behind them waits. It's a single point of failure disguised as a skilled specialist.

“It's rarely one big failure. It's five small taxes on every clip.”

03Brand drifts between clips

Hand-styling every video means small inconsistencies creep in — a slightly different red, a headline set too large, a logo out of place. No single slip matters, but across hundreds of clips the channel stops looking like itself, and that erosion is hard to notice until it's everywhere.

04Per-platform versions take too long

The same story now needs to be vertical, square and wide. Re-cutting each format separately triples the export work and opens the door to versions that don't quite match. It's a tax paid on every story that goes to more than one platform — which is now every story.

05Files are scattered with no control

Assets live across drives and folders with no clear structure or permissions. Nobody's sure where the latest cut is, or who's allowed to change it. Time disappears into searching, and the wrong version going out becomes a real risk rather than a rare accident.

Notice the pattern: five different bottlenecks, one underlying answer. Each is a symptom of treating video as a series of one-off builds instead of a system. Design the identity once, let anyone produce against it, and organize the result — and the five taxes disappear together. That's not a faster version of the old workflow. It's a different one.
